Working in partnership with the Vermont Land Trust and The Nature Conservancy, Louis has joined with Middlebury to ensure that this vital resource is conserved, protected and properly managed in perpetuity with its own endowment. The newly established Bread Loaf Preservation Fund will preserve and maintain the Bread Loaf campus and the surrounding forests and fields while also supporting educational programing and recreational activities.

Louis remarked, “Middlebury College helped shape my values and instill in me a deep appreciation for nature and the environment. I spent many memorable days on or near the Bread Loaf campus, hunting in the fall, cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, and hiking in the spring. I’m pleased to help ensure that future generations will enjoy those lands as I did, and that the writers and teachers who study at the Bread Loaf Campus will always have Robert Frost’s backyard to return to.”
