Tangible Results: Climate Week 2014

On Sunday, more than 400,000 people gathered for the largest climate march in history. Many of our partners, including Waterkeeper, NRDC and Sierra Club marched to support a number climate solutions, ranging from community bike-share programs to global emission restrictions. On Monday, heirs to the Rockefeller oil fortune announced plans to withdraw a total of $50 billion from fossil fuels. Yesterday, President Obama joined more than 100 world leaders at the UN Summit on Climate Change, designed to move the issue from thought to action. On her blog, NRDC President Frances Beinecke remarks, “something extraordinary happened at the United Nations Climate Summit on Tuesday. One world leader after another took to the podium and described what his or her nation is already doing to reduce climate change pollution.” I am hopeful that the momentum generated this week in NYC will translate into tangible results for our planet, waterways and wildlife.
